Urban Farms

one or two gardeners attending to land specifically for food production

Starr Street - Little Farm

Though not as pretty as its neighbor down the street, the Small Farm on Starr Street is nonetheless a great community resource. With gates open, a place to sit, and an umbrella overhead, the Small Farm is in many ways the quintessential community garden. Neighbors from up and down Starr Street gather at the small garden to talk with one another and catch up on what’s happening in their community. It is as much a meeting place as a garden.

Starr Street - Big Farm

The Starr Street Big Farm is truly a modern day wonder. Such a beautiful garden is hard to imagine right here in New Haven. Another one of our “Urban Farms” this garden, under Robert Wright’s management should be seen as a serious community food resource. But this garden serves the community in other ways. Bob is often has the gates to the garden open with a place for neighbors to sit and have a cool drink making it a community space as well.

Ivy Street

The garden is clean and is producing a large amount of produce. It also serves to enhance the esthetic of the community.

Solidly anchored across from St. Andrews Episcopal on one side and a playground on the other. This garden had a very successful growing season this year.  Among its members are some very talented gardeners.
